To truly understand and appreciate a country or destination, check out the local history museum. So when in Tokyo, a visit to the Edo-Tokyo Museum is a must!

All About the Edo-Tokyo Museum

The Edo-Tokyo Museum opened in 1993 with the mission to preserve the Edo cultural heritage. The museum is completely dedicated to the capital city and spans across over 400 years of Tokyo’s history.

After paying admission, visitors will immediately get wowed by the massive life-size models and recreations, including the Nihonbashi Bridge. It is incredibly fascinating to learn about the city that you are currently visiting especially when you drive over the actual Nihonbashi bridge and stroll through Ginza with a newfound appreciation.

The museum not only has massive structures but also intricately detailed miniature dioramas as well as decades and centuries-old artifacts.

Visitors should plan at least 3 hours in the museum to really take your time to walk through and read the histories of the Edo and Tokyo periods.

The Edo-Tokyo Museum wonderfully presents Tokyo’s history in such an informative, educational, and entertaining way with its models, artifacts, and hands-on exhibits. It is a museum for all ages and a must for visitors of Tokyo to truly appreciate the city we know today.
