Best Restaurants in Tokyo: Where to eat in Tokyo to satisfy any craving

Tokyo has an overwhelming choice of restaurants in every corner of the city. The travel goal in Japan practically requires you to increase your eating capacity to taste as many foods as possible. Here is my roundup of best restaurants in Tokyo:

Best Restaurants in Tokyo: Japanese Cuisine for Casual Dining

Beef curry at The Lobby of The Peninsula Tokyo. Hands down, one of the best Japanese beef curries in the city because of its quality of beef and the blend of spices to create such a depth of flavors. Read more about Peninsula’s beef curry here
Soba lunch set at Hakone Akatsuki-an in Mitsukoshi Ginza. If you love noodles, these handmade noodles in Ginza are a must try. You can even watch the master soba chef roll and cut the noodles during peak lunch and dinner hours. Read more about the soba restaurant here
Unagi donburi at Bincho in Ginza. This unagi grills in the Nagoya style to create a crispness from the bincho (as opposed to the Tokyo style which boils and broils the unagi). At Bincho you can choose the size of your unagi, as well as the type of set for the meal. Read more about dining in Ginza here
Oyako donburi at Tori to Chokottto Ryori Hokkoriya in Nihonbashi. Oyakodon is a common dish, especially in yakitori restaurants for lunch or the end the dinner meal. Here in this unassuming restaurant in Nihonbashi, the technique of soft scrambled eggs makes this dish a stand out. Read more about the meal here
Ramen seems like an obvious meal when in Japan. If you want a variety of ramen options in one area, head to Tokyo Station’s Ramen Street where you can enjoy 8 ramen shops in one “street”, including this famous tsukemen ramen. Read more about Ramen Street here

Best Restaurants in Tokyo: Classic Yakitori Restaurants

Fried chicken at Tori Kansuke in Otemachi. This restaurant specializes in all things chicken, including yakitori and this big plate of fried chicken. Higher end yakitori restaurants pride themselves in the quality of chicken used, typically coming from one local farm. Read more about Tori Kansuke here
Grilled chicken wings at Bird Land in Marunouchi. If you want a truly classic yakitori restaurant, while in a nice setting and not in a smoky joint near a train station, consider booking a table at Birdland for a memorable yakitori feast

Best Restaurants in Tokyo: Splurge on Japanese Cuisine

Sukiyaki beef for an epic night at Moritaya in Marunouchi. The original branch comes from Kyoto with other locations also in Osaka. This sukiyaki restaurant specializes in the Kansai cooking technique in which the beef is caramelized rather than stewed in liquid
Tempura bar experience. When in Japan, you must experience the tempura bar where the master chef fries each piece of seafood and vegetable according to your pace of eating. For an extra splurge and fine setting consider hotel tempura bars like Capitol Hotel and Palace Hotel in Tokyo. Read about the Capitol Hotel Tokyu tempura experience here

Best Restaurants in Tokyo: Western Dining in Tokyo

Shake Shack burgers, fries, and wine in Tokyo. Shake Shack now has three locations in Tokyo, each in a beautiful setting for locals and tourists. The experience and tastes are as magical as in the original location in New York. Read more about Shake Shack Japan here
Dessert lovers show not miss out on Dominique Ansel Bakery in Omotesando. You can get all the signature items, like these Frozen S’Mores, Cookie Shots, Kouign Amman, and the global sensation, Cronuts. Read more about the bakery here
For classic pizza and Italian pasta, head to Serafina New York in the basement floor of The Palace Hotel Tokyo. Pizzas come out of the oven in minutes, the pasta noodles are perfectly al dente, and the wine pairing makes the evening extra enjoyable. Read more about Serafina here
For the ultimate pizza lover experience, book a bar seat at The Pizza Bar on 38th at The Mandarin Oriental Tokyo. It is like a sushi bar/tempura bar/chef’s table experience for pizza baked Roman-style in a brick over. Read more about the pizza bar here
