Guam is a lesser-known destination with so much beauty, especially for those seeking a beachfront resort vacation. Here is a little guide for your Guam trip preparation:
Number of Days in Guam
Guam is a perfect destination for a long weekend getaway. To make the journey worthwhile, yet still get the most of the island, consider about 3-4 nights for a leisurely vacation.
Weather & Seasons
As a tropical destination, Guam does not have the four seasons like the rest of the U.S. Instead, it has dry season between December and April (which is the ideal time to go to Guam and most Southeast Asian destinations) and rainy season from April to December. From July to October, rainy season is also typhoon season with greater chances of stormy, windy weather. In all cases, the weather remains warm and humid.
Travel Documents Needed to Enter Guam
All travelers, including U.S. citizens, must travel with their passports. Non-U.S. citizens must have a valid U.S. Visa to enter Guam.
However, there are 2 categories of exemptions: 1) those countries qualifying for the Visa Waiver Program for the U.S., and 2) those countries qualifying for the Visa Waiver Program for Guam allowing tourists to spend up to 45 days in the island. These countries include Australia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Nauru, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.
Consider a Rental Car
If you want to freely go around the island, consider a Rental Car. The roads are American-style and right-hand drive, so driving around the island is easier compared to other foreign countries.
Currency, Electronics, WiFi & SIM Cards
As a U.S. territory, the currency on Guam is also U.S. dollars. Note, because goods are shipped to the island, the cost of food and shopping are priced higher than the states.
Outlets are 110 volts with the US type A/B plugs.
You can purchase a pre-paid SIM card for local data. If you do not need data while outside the hotel, know that hotels provide free WiFi for guests.
