Choose the best brand for your travel plans
When traveling to Thailand, you will need suitable data coverage wherever you plan to go whether it just in Bangkok, up north in the mountains, or down south along the beaches. Here is a guide to choosing which is the best travel SIM card for your travel itinerary in Thailand:
SIM Card Option #1: AIS, Best in Bangkok
If you plan to just stay in Bangkok, AIS provides the fastest Internet speeds compared to other SIM card brands. It also performs wells in Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Samui.
For 299 baht (~$9 USD) you will get 2.5 GB of data for 7 days. If you stay longer, you can get the 599 (~$18 USD) baht package for 4 GB of data for 15 days. Each package comes with 100 baht credit can be applied to the 3 baht per SMS and 1 baht per minute for calls.
You can purchase AIS SIM cards in the AIS kiosk at the Suvarnabhumi Arrivals Hall between gates 6 and 7. You can also find vendors at the major international airports in Thailand, AIS shops in the city, as well as Family Mart convenience stores.
SIM Card Option #2: True Move, Best All-Around Coverage
If you plan to hop around the country from the north to the south, True Move provides the best all-around 4G coverage.
For 299 baht you will get 2.5 GB for 8 days including 100 baht for talk time with 1 baht per minute. You can purchase True Move SIM cards at the arrival halls of the major international airports in Thailand and select vendors around the cities.
SIM Card Option #3: DTAC, Best for Island-Hopping
If you plan to island hop, DTAC provides better coverage on the more remote islands around the southern parts of the country. It also has good coverage in and around Bangkok.
For 299 baht you will get 2.5 GB for 8 days including 100 baht credit for 1 baht per minute of calls. For 599 baht you will get 6 GB for 15 days with the same 100 baht credit. Like AIS and True Move, you can purchase DTAC SIM cards at the major international airports in Thailand and select vendors around the cities.
