Favorite Dishes from Southern Bali and Ubud

Six nights in Bali meant at least 18 amazing meals and many drinks in between. Here are my top 6 dishes from my Balinese adventure (and I still dream about the top 2!):

#6: Rempeyek at Sundara Beach Club at the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay

A classic Indonesian snack with an elevated presentation at the Four Seasons. This fried cracker has crispy chunks of nuts and is accompanied by a sate-like dipping sauce. This is perfect with drinks or as a mid-day snack

#5: Vietnamese Salad at The Bistrot

There’s nothing like an Asian salad to cool down during the hot, humid day. This healthy salad includes deliciously marinated grilled beef and small fried vegetable rolls to add texture, flavor, and death to the dish

#4: Pork Belly Popcorn at Single Malt

There’s nothing like deep-fried pork belly, especially when you are a few drinks in. Paired with bourbon-based cocktails, this order of crispy pork balanced each other beautifully with the intense frying rendering off much of the fat for an extra crunchy bite [Screen capture taken from my YouTube video. Watch it here]

#3: Tacos at Motel Mexicola

Like the deep-fried pork belly, tacos are another perfect food while drinking and after drinking. Motel Mexicola serves all that you crave for when you drink: chips, tacos, and more for a light bite or a big meal [Screen capture taken from my YouTube video. Watch it here]

#2: Fried Rice at Sundara Beach Club at the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay

High on this list is a simple bowl of Balinese fried rice. This, however, is a most special bowl prepared in the hands of the Four Seasons, inclusive of high-quality of ingredients and of the properly-trained kitchen staff. The quality of the rice grain, its pearly chewy texture, and the intensity of flavors packed into every grain and bite

#1: Into the Sawah at Restaurant Locavore

Heritage Galuh rice (from Tegalalang, Central Bali) with snails and garlic, 64 degrees duck egg, frog abon fern tips, and wild flowers. Look at that beautiful egg! The egg makes this the best dish in Bali. Cooked to an amazing gooey, chewy texture and flavored with the rice below – absolute perfection
