Easiest Spicy Sushi Roll Recipe

Satisfy Your Sushi Cravings at Home.

Sushi is one of the world’s most popular foods. But lately, staying in seems to be a safer and better option for meals. So here’s an easy spicy sushi roll recipe to satisfying your cravings for sushi rolls:

Tips, Techniques, and Trends for Making Sushi Rolls

The hardest part of making sushi rolls is the actual rolling process. Distributing the rice evenly on the seaweed, rolling it tight enough without squeezing too hard, and cutting it neatly with a big sharp knife. It’s definitely not easy.

These days, in the hottest sushi restaurants in Japan, customers are enjoying the tastiest and simplest formed hand rolls. So this recipe combines the spicy roll flavors from the U.S. with the hand roll trend seen in Japan.

Ingredients

1. For sushi rolls, you have to prepare the cuts. For sashimi or nigiri, cut it like the platter on the right. For rolls, you can either cut strips or chopped into big or fine chunks.

2. This is the current trend for hand rolls. Cut the large square seaweed into quarters, either with scissors or by folding it and gently ripping along the fold. Then place a small, single serving of sushi rice in the middle and lay out a portion of the spicy filling.

For the spicy filling: In a small bowl, combine your portion of chopped sushi, about 1 Tablespoon of Japanese mayonnaise, and about 1 teaspoon of Sriracha. Mix it all together. If you want it spicier, add another squeeze of Sriracha. If you want it more creamy, add another dollop of Japanese mayonnaise.

3. If the cut of sushi is too premium to chop up, you can improvise with slathering the spicy mayo mixture like in the photo above. Use your creativity to add on more garnishes like cucumber, green onions, and whatever else you have in the fridge.
