All The Things You Can & Cannot Take from Your Hotel Room.
Every hotel room has something complimentary to offer its guests. To the very least, the bar soap in the bathroom. Many experienced travelers can distinguish what is free and what is to remain in the room. Some guests, however, may try their hand and take home items that are not at all meant to be complimentary. Here is a guide to understand your hotel room amenities and to know what you can and cannot take home:
Hotel Room Amenities You CAN Take Home
◦ bar soap
◦ mini-bottles: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion
◦ packaged toiletry items: toothbrush, razor kit, nail kit, sewing kit, shower cap
◦ room slippers
◦ fruit from the welcome fruit plate (but not the plate!)
◦ plastic bags (like dry cleaning bags)
◦ coffee pods/drip packs, tea bags, sugar packets, creamer
◦ stationary paper & envelopes, postcards, notepads, hotel pen
◦ bottled water (that explicitly says “complimentary”)
Hotel Room Amenities You CANNOT Take Home
◦ towels
◦ bedsheets, blankets, pillows
◦ robes (unless it’s personalized and monogrammed for you)
◦ plates, mugs, glasses, cutlery
◦ non-complimentary minibar items
◦ room electronics (tablets, phones, etc)
◦ clock radio
◦ TV remote
◦ closet hangers
◦ closet umbrella (you can use it during your stay, but leave it in the room when you check out)
◦ hairdryer
◦ Bible or Qur’an
◦ coffee machine
◦ lamps
◦ anything else that is explicitly not complimentary and meant to decorate the room
Note: If you take any of these items, the hotel can still charge you after you check out as they have your credit card and contact information.
