Breakfast Sushi: Best Way to Start the Day

Sushi for Breakfast in Japan.

Every meal matters when visiting Japan because the country is loaded with amazing food. Breakfast sushi?? Why not! It’s the freshest way to start your day.

Breakfast Sushi: Fish Markets, Restaurants, and Convenience Stores

Sushi for breakfast originated at the early morning fish markets after buyers and sellers finished their morning work. The freshly caught fish and fish imported internationally for the day were distributed to food stalls and restaurants for their eager and hungry customers.

Today, the clientele goes beyond the sellers and buyers of the markets. You will also find locals who work nearby enjoying a quick few bites of sushi before heading to the office. And, of course, as the morning goes on there are tourists from around the world eager to taste the freshness of the market.

At these fish markets, like Tsukiji and Toyosu Markets in Tokyo, you can food crawl your way through all the different vendors selling sashimi, nigiri, hand rolls, rice bowls, and more.

In train stations, like in Tokyo Station, you can find standing sushi bars and sushi restaurants open for breakfast.

And for the easiest and most convenient place, step into the closest convenience store where you will find freshly stocked sushi rolls and onigiri rice balls for a quick breakfast or snack at any time of the day.
