Best & Worst Time to Visit Hong Kong

Best & Worst Months of the Year

While Hong Kong can be visited any time of the year, there are better and worse months to fully enjoy the city. Here are the best and worst months of the year to visit Hong Kong:

Best Months to Visit Hong Kong

Autumn

The absolute best time of the year to visit Hong Kong is during its autumn months from September to November. Plentiful sunshine, comfortable temperatures, and pleasant breezes. Temperature average ranges from 19 to 28 degrees Celsius (60 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit)

The view of Hong Kong Island and Central from Kowloon. The best days in Hong Kong are when you have clear skies and a beautiful view across Victoria Harbour. While Hong Kong has a plethora of malls to cool down or warm up, the city is best enjoyed walking through the city streets

Winter

The next best time of the year to visit Hong Kong is during its winter months from December to February. The temperature cools and the humidity dries with cloudy skies and occasional cold fronts. Temperature average ranges from 12 to 20 degrees Celsius (53 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit)

Winter in Hong Kong is the best time of the year for hikes. The colder temperatures make the walks up the mountainous trails easier to accomplish. Here is a winter’s day in Hong Kong during a hike up Dragon’s Back Trail (Read more about the hike here)

Spring

Another good time of the year to visit Hong Kong is during its spring months from March to May. Temperatures and humidity begin to transition from the winter season and into the summer season. Temperature average ranges from 17 to 26 degrees Celsius (62 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit)

Spring time in Hong Kong begins its unpredictable weather. Some days are perfect, some are cloudy, and some are already summer hot. Nonetheless, it is still a beautiful time of the year to visit the city

Worst Months to Visit Hong Kong

Summer

Hands down, the worst time of the year to visit Hong Kong is during its summer months from June to August. It is hot and sunny with “instant-sweat” high humidity levels. Temperature average ranges from 26 to 31 degrees Celsius (78 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit). While the temperature may read as a pleasant number, combined with the high humidity it is uncomfortably hot.

Aside from the heat, it is also the season for rain showers and thunderstorms. August is the wettest month of the year. If you plan to walk outdoors and see heavy clouds, always take an umbrella for unexpected downpours of rain
