ANA Business Class Review: Flying from Narita to Manila

All Nippon Airways is one of the best airlines to fly to Manila because of its detailed cleanliness and respectful service. Here is an ANA Business Class review for flights from Narita to Manila:

Airport Check-In, Security & Immigration

Narita Terminal 1 South Wing houses departures for All Nippon Airways international flights. It is important to note your airline and specific terminal as international flights depart from all 3 terminals in Narita.

After checking in your luggage in Narita Terminal 1S, you will proceed to the Security line. Note that between 9am to 10am are peak hours for the security lines. Because of all the international flights and the many flights to the U.S., screening can be as nit-picky as the U.S.’s TSA procedures.

Once you get through Security proceed to Immigration where you simply scan in your passport information page to proceed through to the boarding gates.
 

Lounge & Boarding Gate

At the boarding gate, expect a slighter longer line for Business Class passengers as many of the members of either ANA or United membership programs are privileged to line up in the Business Class line even if they are ticketed in Economy.
 

The Seat

ANA Business Class from Manila to Narita offers the ANA Business Cradle configuration with cradle-style seats. These do not lie flat and it is a 2-2-2 layout which means you will likely sit next to someone. The consolation is the spaciousness and cleanliness of the cabin which are not the same on competing airlines.

Seat 2H in Business Class. If watching before taking off is important for you, note that Row 1 seats have their monitor tucked under their sidearm console and must be kept underneath for take-off and landing. As such, Row 2 onwards may be a better seat for you.

 

The Amenities

The airline provides Business Class passengers with the usual pillow and blanket on their seats. In the magazine compartment, you will find your headset and airplane slippers. It is in Japanese culture to take off your shoes in the plane and where these slippers, much like the locals do when they enter a home. This keeps the cabin carpet cleaner than other airlines.

Flight attendants will either offer a basket of more amenities or you will find it in the galley. That basket has eye masks, earplugs, wet tissues, toothbrushes, and mouthwash.
 

The Meal Service

Business Class passengers have the option of a Japanese or Western meal for this 4- hour flight from Narita to Manila. The menu changes every month for both options. Because this flight caters to many travelers connecting from the states, the meal service can feel a bit rushed as they dim the lights right to allow these passengers to sleep.

After takeoff, the flight attendants bring down the drink trolley served with Japanese rice crackers. This is the chance to try premium Japanese drinks like sake, shochu, and whisky. For non-alcoholic options, the cold green tea is unsweetened and refreshing.

 

The Japanese meal comes with two plates of a cold assortment of appetizer bites, miso soup, a hot plate, and a small dessert, in this case apple pie (which is on the too-sweet side). The Japanese meal is fun to try the first time or when you really do not want the Western dish.

Sukiyaki-style short rib beef with steamed rice on the side. The beef is surprisingly tender and tasty, but the sauce for ANA flights are all the same sweet thickness. Flights out of Japan have better pouches of freshly steamed rice than flights coming into Japan which can have drier, tougher rice.

The Western meal is often either a beef or fish dish. In this case it is a hamburg with mashed potatoes prepared in a similar fashion to the Japanese hamburg with rice. If you fly ANA often, you can actually tire of the Japanese meals and will find yourself enjoying the Western choices.

 

For dessert on the Western menu for Manila flights, you will be given this tart yogurt dessert with the Pierre Herme branding. It is very sweet and very tart at the same time from the yogurt and mango-passion fruit blend.
