Getting sick can dampen your travels whether it is a light cold or body-aching flu. From years of travel, experience, and growing up with a clean-loving mother, here are my healthy traveling tips for how to stay healthy:
The number defense to prevent getting sick or to help shorten a sickness is with your daily dose of Vitamin C. Have one 500mg tablet in the morning (after breakfast) and another at night before bed. This help defend your immune system during the day and also rejuvenate your body while you sleep.
Aside from Vitamin C, add probiotics to your daily supplements, especially during trips. While pricey, probiotics, like the brand Culturelle, greatly helps to rid your stomach of bad bacteria. During trips, it can also prevent or soothe bad stomachs.

A natural way to add to your daily dose of Vitamin C is through consuming fruits. Buy oranges at the local supermarket or discover local fruits that are packed with nutrients and flavor. Also, your daily quota of water helps to properly hydrate for optimal wellness. To calculate your quota, divide your weight in pounds by 2 and that number is how many ounces you should drink each day.
As in Kleenex tissue paper, not toilet tissue paper. Tissue paper in your bag or pocket is vital not only to cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough, but also to use when you hold public objects – like door handles, telephone, etc. It may look funny to others, but it saves you from touching germs that may potentially get you sick.

And if you have touch things full of germs, such as door handles and, especially, money, have a tube of hand sanitizer or a pack of disinfectant wipes with you at all times. Wiping your hands immediately rids of you most germs without having to go to a public bathroom to wash your hands.

In the case you are already sick or you feel yourself on the verge of sickness, bring or buy zinc lozenges to fight it off. When taken at the first sign of cold symptoms, zinc lozenges have proven to make the cold go away faster. Cough drops also help soothe your throat and prevent others from catching your germs.

While it’s tempting to stay out late each night exploring the nightlife or even just to stay up and watch TV from the hotel bed, a full night’s rest is one of the most valuable things while you are traveling (and while you are back at home, too). Proper hours of sleep can cure potential and present ailments.
