Tokyo Travel: 9 Touristy Things to Do That are Actually Fun!

There are so many things to do and see in Tokyo. You will find lists and lists online… and here’s another one! So what makes this list different? These are curated Tokyo travel activities that are actually worth your time.

 

1. Edo-Tokyo Museum

First, start your Tokyo travel with learning about the city’s history at the Edo-Tokyo Museum where you will educate yourself about the Edo Period and the contemporary Tokyo Period.

2. Tsukiji Outer Market

While the wholesale market moved over to Toyosu, tourists can still enjoy and feast on the local flavors at the Tsukiji Outer Market.

3. Imperial Palace Gardens

Explore the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace which is the inner palace area that is open to the public to walk through and admire the pristine Japanese gardens and a former castle tower. The palace itself remains off-limits as it is still the primary residence of the emperor.

4. Department Store Food Halls

For anyone interested in food, the department store basement food halls, locally known as depachika, are an absolute must when visiting Japan. Recommended department stores include Mitsukoshi, Isetan, Takashimaya, and Daimaru.

 

5. Stroll Ginza on a Sunday

Head to Ginza on a Sunday. While you may not be inclined to shop, you can still enjoy walking along the main road as on Sundays between 12 pm to 5 pm it is closed to cars for pedestrians to enjoy the district. Must visits include Mitsubishi, Ginza, Six, and Uniqlo.

 

6. Shibuya Crossing

The most iconic depiction of Tokyo has to be the ever-crowded Shibuya Crossing. If you find yourself in or around Shibuya, it is fun and worthwhile walking with the herds of locals and tourists.

 

7. Senso-ji Temple

Temples and shrines are always a recommended attraction when visiting Japan. There are countless temples and shrines that they may not be as exciting after seeing the first few. If you have to see one in Tokyo, Sensoji Temple is one of the most popular and most colorful – great for your photo opportunities!

8. Tokyo’s DisneySea

Disneyland lovers must spend the day at Tokyo DisneySea which is a Disney theme park completely unique to Japan. A fun day out for all ages, and be sure to eat and drink at the park because the food there is far better than other Disneyland locations around the world.

The world’s first digital art museum opened in Tokyo in 2018, and today it is the most popular and sought-after museum in the world attracting hoards of visitors and celebrities. A must-visit and a must book ahead experience.
