Melbourne is the perfect destination if you have a few days to relax and enjoy the culture of the city. Here are recommendations for sights to see, museums to visit, tours to sign up for, shopping suggestions, and how to get around.

 

Things to Do in Melbourne

Sights & Museums

State Library
Take in the culture and enjoy some quiet time at the city’s State Library. Be sure to head up to the 6th floor of the dome to appreciate all the views of the library.
Daily 10 am to 6 pm
 
Parliament
Enjoy more of the culture and history of the city at the Parliament House where free guided tours are offered throughout the day.
Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm
 
The LUME
Spend some time in this incredible digital art gallery which currently features the art of the First Peoples’ of the land.
Sunday to Wednesday, 10 am to 6:30 pm
Thursday to Saturday, 10 am to 9:30pm
 
 

Tours

Depot Adventures
To really get to know a new city, take a local tour. This company offers more than the usual walking history tour or food tour. Depot Adventures has a hidden bar crawl tour! This is ideal for day drinkers. Plan for a late dinner to fully enjoy the afternoon. For non-drinkers, the company also offers a street eats tour in the evenings.
 
 

Shopping

Collins Street
For a little leisurely high end shopping, head to Collins Street to find your favorite international brands.
 
Emporium Melbourne
For all indoor shopping with mid-to-upper range brands, Emporium will have something for everyone.
 
Chadstone
For those that really love to shop, Chadstone will be your haven and heaven. It’s a drive out of the city, but once you’re there you may not want to leave.
 
 

Activities for All Ages

HiJinx Hotel
If you find yourself in Chadstone and you don’t like to shop or you want to do more than just shop, bring your kids or the kid in you and enjoy HiJinx Hotel! There are multiple puzzle rooms to accumulate points within 30 minutes or 1 hour. If you’re competitive, bring at least 4 people to rack up the points.

 
 

Transportation

Within the city center, Melbourne offers free tram rides. Outside of the free zone, you can purchase a MYKI card for the day(s) that you’ll be taking public transportation. Alternatively, Ubers operate in the city which is useful for heading to and from the airport.
