Luxury Hotel Review: The Peninsula Shanghai

Classic Peninsula in Classic Shanghai

The Peninsula Shanghai

Peninsula hotels are synonymous with luxury, tradition, and world-class service. Each location is renown for their heritage, innovation, and glamor.

The Peninsula Shanghai is no exception.

Opened in 2009, the property redefined the luxury accommodation scene in Shanghai as the flagship Peninsula hotel in Mainland China.

The hotel offers the Peninsula standard of luxuries including car services from their signature Peninsula green vehicles, like the beautiful Phantom Rolls Royce. The Peninsula Academy also provides guests with culturally enriching activities in the hotel and out in the city.

The Peninsula Shanghai Location

The hotel resides ideally along The Bund, the city’s historic waterfront with a pedestrian walkway along the Huangpu River. Adjacent to the property is the old British Consulate building and its surrounding gardens.

Across the river are spectacular views of the Pudong city skyline with some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world.

All sides of The Peninsula Shanghai are breathtakingly picturesque.

Art Deco Meets Modern Times

The style of the hotel brings together history, tradition, and modernity. Classic Peninsula meeting Classic Shanghai.

In The Peninsula Shanghai, the Art Deco with touches of modernity is reminiscent of 1920s Shanghai.

The history and traditions are found all over the hotel’s classic décor and façade, while the furnishings and in-room technology introduce the modern comforts of Asia.

The Peninsula Shanghai Rooms

The Peninsula Shanghai houses 235 guests rooms and suites. Rooms start at 54 square meters from 2,400 CNY per night, and suites start at 90 square meters from 5,300 CNY per night.

Like all Peninsula hotels, the room layouts are a standard with the walk-in closet and the large bathroom complete with two sinks, a tub, a separate shower, and a separate toilet. The room’s spaciousness adds to the luxury with the sitting area and entertainment hub.

The in-room technology brings the classic surroundings into the future with control panels for the room’s thermostat and lighting as well as panels indicating details of the outside climate which is the perfect assistant before dressing up to go outside.

Welcome to The Peninsula Shanghai. A grand entrance for a grand hotel full of detailed luxury and classic hospitality. You are truly in for a pampered stay
The standard Peninsula greeting. These statues welcome you home in every single Peninsula property. The beauty of Peninsula hotels is the familiarity in design which makes coming back to your hotel at night feel like a home away from home
The hotel driveway. The private entrance, landscaping, and lighting provide a luxurious exclusivity for guests and visitors. The address of the hotel is along The Bund, while the driving directions lead vehicles to this driveway and main entrance
View of the Pudong skyline from the hotel. Guests can capture this captivating view all along the hotel’s windows on The Bund. The skyscrapers in Shanghai are some of the tallest in the world with incredible modern, futuristic architecture
View towards the end of The Bund. The property has ideal views of the Pudong skyline, The Bund, and the Huangpu River making all angles picturesque all day and all night
View of the old British consulate. Next door to the hotel is the consulate where guests can peep into the occasional red carpet event. The lush greenery throughout the metropolitan provides a respite from the city’s density and skyscrapers
The lobby entrance. Like all Peninsula hotels, the lobby is a truly grand entrance. High ceilings alongside Art Deco modernity are the classic Peninsula welcome
Seasonal and local flower arrangements in the lobby and throughout the hotel brighten and liven the rooms bringing in a soft, natural touch
Welcome to your home away from home. Your Peninsula room is always ready to pamper guests with high-quality linens and spacious rooms and suites. The blend of Art Deco and modern furnishings add to the first-class luxury
The sitting area and entertainment wall. The sitting area and desk provide space for guests to enjoy the room beyond the bed. The hidden entertainment wall adds class to the room, allowing the centerpiece to be the décor rather than the television
The wall opens up to the television which you can enjoy from the couch or your bed. On the sides of the cabinetry are the coffee and tea stations as well as mini bar offerings
Tea and coffee stations. The teas are signature Peninsula blends, unique to the properties and also offering in the gift shops. The circular coffee pods are designed for the Nespresso machines
Nespresso machine for your morning, afternoon, and nightly cups of coffee. Because of my extensive hotel traveling, I have a fondness of Nespresso machines and the taste of its espresso
In-room technology. Aside from the room layout, the in-room panel is similar in all properties. The panel controls the lighting, master switch, room temperature, and also indicates the current temperature outside to let you know if you need to have an extra jacket or sweater before you leave the room
Spacious walk-in closet. I love Peninsula closets because of their size. It really feels like home with the space for hanging clothes, drawers, suitcases, and the surface area to comfortable change clothes in your changing room
The closet provides a raised landing for your suitcases and also a desk and chair for your vanity counter. The lighting and magnified mirror are perfect for your makeup routine in the mornings
Little details go a long way. The nail dryer is a complete luxury that is highly appreciated when wanted extra pampering in your room
The classic Peninsula bathroom entrance. The tub is the highlight, with two sinks on each side and separated shower and toilet areas. So spacious and so Peninsula
The shower. The strength of the shower head is so enjoyable after a day out in the city. Also, Peninsula towels are consistently massive which is suitable for the taller businessmen
Amenities. Standard Peninsula amenities including dental kits, nail kits, shower caps, vanity kits, sewing kits, and their wonderfully scented lotion
Well-lit. The bathroom is properly lit from above and from the lamps. The rooms also provide international outlets for guests from all over the world to use their electronics and devices
Time to unwind. The bathtub in the Peninsula is the best place to end the day. The soap and salts enhance the experience while the mood lighting, music, and bathroom television further relax your mind and body
More pampering and luxury with a ride in Peninsula’s signature green Rolls Royce. Each location has this signature car, as well as Teslas, Mini Coopers, and more all in the Peninsula green
Airport transfer. Peninsula escorts you all the way through your airport check-in. They will assist you with your suitcases and walk you to the security line, as it is a Peninsula tradition
