Food Chronicles

Pizzeria Delfina, San Francisco Bay Area

Neighborhood appeal at Pizzeria Delfina

It all started with Delfina, a neighborhood trattoria in San Francisco’s Mission District serving upscale Italian cuisine in an approachable environment. The husband and wife team, Annie and Craig Stoll, then bought the 600 square foot space next door to fulfill another food dream. Pizzeria Delfina opened its doors in 2005 serving Neapolitan-inspired pizzas, and it was an immediate hotspot. Waiting over an hour to get a small table became the norm.

4 Locations

Today, there are four Pizzeria Delfina locations around the Bay Area – two in San Francisco and two in the Peninsula, in Burlingame and Palo Alto.  And, everyone still waits for a coveted table.

The family-owned business emphasizes neighborhood dining.  This is fresh, handmade food served in a warm, comfortable, casual atmosphere.

The food is simple Italian.  Seasonal antipasti, piatti as smaller portioned entrees, and the delicious pizzas.  The pizza is Neapolitan-style with inspiration from Italy and New York.  Thin crust with a crispy bottom and a chewy, fluffy, crispy crust.

So comforting and so satisfying.

Mio Mao.  Gin, aperol, lemon, cucumber, mint.  A cool Italian-inspired cocktail to start out of the meal
Hell or High Watermelon, 21st Amendment.  A new classic San Francisco summer wheat beer
Tuna Conserva.  With butter beans and watercress
Seasonal Roasted Red Peppers.  With arugula and pine nuts
Roasted Padron Peppers
Neapolitan Meatballs in Sugo.  Pork, beef, and veal meatballs with tomato sauce and crostini
Margherita Pizza.  Tomato, fior di latte mozzarella, basil
4 Formaggi.  Tomato, mozzarella, fontal, provolone, pecorino
Gelato scoop.  Vanilla bean and TCHO chocolate
