Spain’s Best Food Market: Mercat Central in Valencia Spain

Valencia’s Mercat Central

La Boqueria in Barcelona is the tourists’ destination. Mercat Central in Valencia is for the locals.

Debuted in 1928, this is one of Europe’s oldest and largest running food markets. There are far fewer tourists and crowds which make for the perfect place to witness local life and living.

The Art Nouveaux Modernist architecture features mosaic domes, stained glass windows, and natural skylights to shine on the spacious 8,000 square meter food hall.

The large space is filled with over 1,000 stalls and over 400 vendors, who are known for their friendliness and personalized service. They take the time to explain their products and their relation to the region.

Every stall sells high-quality products including meats, produce, and baked goods. There is also a designated area for the fish market. This is the place to find all the local specialties like jamon, cheese, arroz, saffron, pimenton, horchata, and seasonal fruits and vegetables.
