There is a constant debate between travelers about what makes their trip authentic. Many tend to equate “local” with a more budget experience. However, locals are also those that are willing to spend more for a clean, quality experience. So to answer the question, Is Luxury Travel Authentic? Yes, absolutely.
“Authentic” travel has a different meaning for each and every traveler as it ultimately comes down to preference, budget, and style of travel. Authenticity gets a bad reputation from tourist traps and mass tourist groups going to the same places where you do not get to really experience the city like a local.
Street food is authentic; fine dining is equally authentic. Essentially, it means experiencing the destination like a local would. And locals, like travelers, have their own range and preference of budget and style of living.
Like “authentic”, “luxury” also has different subjective meanings. To some, it can mean a waste of money and disconnected from the rest of the world. To others, luxury means cleanliness, comfort, style, and high-quality.
Today, luxury travel is entirely authentic. You can travel like a local and enjoy the best that the city has to offer. Authentic travel does not have to mean grubby and dirty places. Yes, those are local, but so are the clean places – find the metropolitan’s financial district and eat with those locals who want to spend for a good, quality night out,
Aside from luxury accommodations and cleaner, higher-end restaurants, there are also luxury travel experiences like cooking classes, food tours, and private tours. These experiences connect you with locals who have similar lifestyle preferences.
If you enjoy living well at home, then feel at home in the world and do so when you travel.
