Hotel Reviews

The Kimpton Buchanan, San Francisco California

Luxury Boutique meets Neighborhood Vibes

San Francisco seamlessly incorporates all cultures into its diverse neighborhoods. Away from the usual tourist destinations (Union Square, Fisherman’s Wharf, and the Embarcadero), it is the neighborhoods that characterize the heart of the city.

In the intersection of 3 distinct neighborhoods, The Kimpton Buchanan presents an upscale boutique hotel with a residential experience that perfectly fits in with everyday San Francisco living.

The Neighborhood

The Kimpton Buchanan locations provides walking distance conveniences to 3 prime San Francisco neighborhoods:

1. Japantown, the country’s largest and oldest, where visitors walk through quaint Japanese-inspired blocks full of shops and local restaurants specializing in ramen, sushi, and more.

2. Pacific Heights, the city’s affluent residential address. The hotel resides closer to Lower Pacific Heights; however, the value of the properties are just as premium in this area.

3. The Fillmore, the city’s destination for music, bars, and the hottest restaurants, like my favorite State Bird Provisions.

Welcome to The Kimpton Buchanan. The understated, modern exterior fits nicely into the residential environment. The lobby is located a few steps down from the sidewalk. On-site parking is available for guests and visitors
View of Japantown from the hotel. From your rooms, you will have city views of the neighboring districts. Guests of the hotel simply cross the street and they are in the heart of Japantown and steps away from the famous pagoda

The Residential Experience

Blending into the neighborhood, The Kimpton Buchanan offers guests a residential experience, from the relaxed and welcoming staff to the apartment-like environment.

The hotel’s facilities include a fitness center, complete with hula hoops, and a private outdoor courtyard with lawn games and al fresco nights by the fire pit. There is even a complimentary wine hour every evening.

The Lobby offers spacious sitting areas, as well as this open table which guests can use as a workstation or for meetings. The décor and furnishing fit into the hip, boutique atmosphere with its bold colors and patterns
The private outdoor courtyard privileges all guests to a quiet retreat from the city. The al fresco setting completes the residential experience as guests can unwind and socialize any time of the day and night
The fire pit warms up the evening and allows guests to linger in the courtyard throughout the evening. The fire pit is surrounded by cradling rocking chairs to soothe and unwind while the flames light up the evening
The fitness center. Admittedly a small space, but room crams in all kinds of equipment from treadmills, ellipticals, bicycles, mat work, and even hula hoops. Through the fitness center’s sliding doors, guests can have fresh air from the courtyard

The Rooms

The rooms of The Kimpton Buchanan provide guests with an apartment-like environment. The furniture and décor are minimalist with warm contemporary touches that make the room feel like home rather than a standard hotel room.

From your window, you can admire the city views of the surrounding neighborhoods and the private courtyard – just as you would if you were a resident of San Francisco.

Welcome to your room at The Kimpton Buchanan. The spacious bedroom provides two side tables and a dining table which can also be used as a workstation. The room’s walls and the tables have an impressive number of electrical outlets for all your devices
A flat screen television with all the necessary network, cable, and movie channels. Next to the television is a massive dresser with an ironing board, yoga mat, safe, and kimonos. There are also small drawers and hanging space for your belongings
The dining table with a view of the neighborhood. The room is provided with complimentary water, treats, and a Keurig coffee machine with pods for coffee and tea. Also on the table are more electrical outlets
And, there are even more electrical outlets and USB chargers on the side tables by the bed. It is a hassle when hotels do not provide a proper outlet next to the bed. The design of these outlets are impressively well-located and practical
The bathroom provides ample space for guests to feel at home in their room. The separate shower and toilet provide extra privacy from the sink area. My only critique is the weak water pressure from the shower head
