Walking Down Tokyo’s Kappabashi Kitchen Street

While most tourists flock to Tsukiji Market, food fans who love the kitchen must check out Kappabashi Street, which is also known as Kitchen Street or Kitchen Town, which has been around for over 100 years.

Chefs and restaurant owners from Tokyo and abroad find everything needed to run a kitchen and restaurant – all except for the fresh food. Locals and tourists can also purchase kitchen and dining items for their homes or as souvenirs at wholesale prices. Here is a brief guide to get to know Kappabashi Street in Tokyo:

How to Get to Kappabashi Kitchen Street

By Taxi or Uber

If you take a taxi, tell your driver you want to go to “Kappabashi” as this is a well-known area for locals and tourists. If you take an Uber, mark “Kappabashi Kitchen Town” as your destination.

By Subway

Take the Ginza Line to Tawaramachi Station. There, you will walk less than a few minutes to the start of Kappabashi street.

Kitchen-ware, Dining-ware, and Everything Kitchen-Related

At Kappabashi, you will find everything needed for a kitchen, restaurant, and even your home. Over 170 shops spanning about 1km sell dining-ware, pots, pans, cooking utensils, stoves, specialized equipment, tables, chairs, restaurants signs, uniforms, and even plastic food displays to make you drool.

Kappabashi is located in the Taito ward as a shopping street between Ueno and Asakusa. You will find everything you need for the kitchen at wholesale prices which you can buy individually or in bulk

Aside from kitchenware, you will also find beautifully crafted dining-ware to use as serving plates and to dine on as your plates, bowls, glasses, utensils, etc. These are truly items which you can only find in Japan

Every single detail of what is needed in a Japanese kitchen, or almost any international cuisine, can be found in one of the 170 shops. This store sells premium bincho charcoal which is used in specialized yakitori shops to give the food an extra depth of flavor

Plastic food displays are one of Japan’s best products. Shops around the country have them in front of their restaurants and they look so real you will instantly get hungry. There are even shops along Kappabashi that sell them as phone covers! The perfect gift for food lovers
