Canned Cranberry Sauce versus Homemade

Canned versus Fresh – Is there a difference?

Thanksgiving is a few weeks away and it is almost time to start thinking about your menu or your contribution to the big meal. One essential? Cranberry sauce! Learn the difference between canned cranberry sauce versus homemade.

Canned Cranberry Sauce versus Homemade Cranberry Sauce

It seems like everyone has an opinion when it comes to their ideal cranberry sauce to pair with their Thanksgiving meal. Here are the differences between the meal’s most essential sauce:

Homemade Cranberry Sauce
Homemade cranberries are made from fresh cranberries (which you can freeze until it is time to cook the meal). As these are fresh and not processed, the cooked result has the most whole berries which created a popping texture when eaten. Right off the heat, they are not as gelled, but gel over time. If you prefer less sweet, and more tart, fresh cranberry sauce is the way to go. Plus, this is possibly the easiest side dish to make.

Canned Cranberry Sauce
For fast convenience, canned cranberry sauce is the most ideal. Plus, it has that form with can look nice when plated. The taste is sweeter with a smooth jelly texture. Or, it has the sweet whole berries can that are not as tart as the homemade whole cranberries.

So knowing the differences, do you have your preference? Are you Team Homemade or Team Canned? There is no wrong answer or wrong side, it is all about personal preferences.
