Guest Post by Tara Scarioni
Hello, my name is Tara Scarioni. My full-time job is event planning in Los Angeles, but my hobby and passion is travel and everything that goes into discovering a new place, new culture and of course the food! I’ve known Angela since high school and I’m excited to be a guest writer on Foodicles. I started my own travel blog: Tara’s Travel Tips & I hope you enjoy ‘Tara’s Tips’ about sips, chips and dips etc in one of my favorite places in the world, Los Cabos.
I’ve been traveling to Cabo San Lucas every year for the past 20 years. Needless to say, I love guacamole, margaritas and all things South of the Border. Below is a list of some of the best restaurants in San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas:
Casa Calavera at Vidanta just opened two months ago in San Jose del Cabo. The gorgeous setting on the beach is the perfect location for spicy margaritas and their signature shrimp tacos! If you don’t like margs, no worries – their Mojitos are on point! The restaurant is beautifully accented with skulls and crosses and traditional Mexican décor.
The SHOREbar is a perfect location, right next door to Casa Calavera, for a nightcap. The relaxed home-away-from-home feeling is ideal for a relaxing evening spent with friends.
Nido, meaning the Nest, is Viceroy’s premier restaurant. It opens in May 2018.
The Tropicana, downtown San Jose is a casual restaurant next to bustling shops. Cruise the streets for souvenirs and then stop for lunch at The Tropicana Inn. In the evening there is live music and dancing. The Margaritas are huge and delicious!
Flora Farms is one of Cabo’s first farm to table restaurants. Flora’s Field Kitchen is very popular and often booked months in advance by in-the-know travelers (chef Thomas Keller, Adam Levine, and George Clooney are fans). Walk-ins are welcome at breakfast and lunch for such dishes as Scotch eggs with herb sausage (the naturally raised pigs come from the Greenes’ nearby ranch). You can experience cooking classes, farm tours and reserve the location for events.
Acre is 3 years old, but still a hidden gem in San Jose. Tucked away in a lush jungle surrounded by treehouses, this award-winning bar and restaurant is a must see & eat! Enjoy tequila tasting on the property, live music and animals roaming the grounds. Beets on Beets is my favorite dish on the menu. Chef Kevin Luzande’s only uses the seasonal organic ingredients. Their cocktail program is a must, where Dani Tatarin’s award-winning compositions are elevated by produce grown on the property.
One & Only Palmilla is literally my favorite resort in Cabo and literally, any restaurant will blow you away with the service, scenery, and food! Jennifer Aniston is a big fan of Cabo and One&Only.
Agua is a relaxed earth-to-sea restaurant on the cliffs of the resort overlooking the Palmilla Playa. Interactive dining is showcased here, including fresh, hand-made tortillas, authentic moles and signature guacamole and ceviche made tableside.
Seared is a fine-dining restaurant, which of course comes with a price tag, but you will not be disappointed.
Arbol at Las Ventanas al Paraiso is the resort’s newest evening dining destination and is a feast for the senses. I saw Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez the last time I was there enjoy a 5-course meal.
Manta – Chef Enrique Olvera may be the biggest name in Mexican cuisine, which means that his new coastal restaurant at the Cape Hotel is a must-hit for any foodie. The manta ray symbolizes the kitchen’s focus on seafood, while manta, the Spanish word for “blanket”, conveys the chef’s emphasis on comfort. The Cape is home to the only roof-top bar with Arch views in Cabo.
Sunset MonaLisa – With stunning views and a Michelin Star trained chef – it’s one of the most delicious restaurants in Los Cabos. Like Oysters? They are known for their oyster bar.
Ediths is my favorite restaurant in all of Cabo. From the atmosphere, food, music, and service – it’s hard to beat. When you go, definitely have the table-side Caesar Salad, Mexican Coffee, and Plantains Dessert, you won’t regret it and it’s a full-on experience watching them make it. The menu consists of a regional fusion of steaks and seafood and local ingredients.
Edith’s owner also has The Office, a hot spot on the Medano Beach, perfect for lunch and people watching. Also, check out Tres Sirenas and La Pintada.
Hacienda Cocina y Cantina celebrates Mexican cuisine by focusing on the traditional dishes from the Sea of Cortez. Try the melted cheese appetizer, it is a must! Octopus and the Skirt Steak are delicious too.
Nicksan is the sushi hot spot. There is one located in the shopping mall of The One & Only Palmilla, and another downtown Cabo.
Mi Casa, decorated with traditional decor, has live music and serves authentic Mexican cuisine – it is a great spot for a casual dinner in town before dancing.
◦ What happens in Cabo stays in Cabo after a night out at El Squid Roe. Spring Breakers flock to Cabo to let loose and party hard in Cabo’s infamous clubs.
