Best Desserts in Tokyo: Sweet endings in Tokyo

Dessert in Japan is a must, and you can find something sweet practically everywhere, from the high end dessert shops to the convenience stores.

Best Desserts in Tokyo: Depachika Desserts and Confectionaries

The most obvious destination for desserts in Japan is found in the basement food halls of the department stores. You will find desserts to satisfy any and all cravings from local to international creations, as well as beautiful confectionaries, to take home as gifts.

At Mitsukoshi Ginza, you can satisfy all of your dessert cravings. If you love fruits, try the seasonal desserts, such as the winter strawberry shortcake which may be overwhelming with the numerous choices from all the stalls. Let your hungry eyes decide for you.

Best Desserts in Tokyo: International Desserts

Aside from the local desserts, international desserts are incredibly popular in Japan to the point where they have imported some of the best pastry chefs from around the world to have bakeries and cafes in Tokyo.

Italian Biscotti from Angelo’s Biscottiera. Sometimes you don’t want something too sweet, but just a little taste of it. These biscottis are perfect with a cup of coffee. Best of all, you can purchase them online alongside lovely little biscuits for a simple one bite. Currently, the bakery ships its products within Japan and to the Philippines as well. Frozen custards at Shake Shack. You cannot go to Shake Shack and not finish the meal with a Frozen Custard. The locations around Tokyo have their specialty flavors. After your burger, you have access to the cut line to order more drinks and dessert

Crepes at Breizh Cafe. A paper-thin, crispy crepe topped with salted caramel and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. So simple, and so satisfying. If you find yourself in Shinjuku, head to Takashimiya’s upstairs restaurants for a plate of this amazing crepe

Best Desserts in Tokyo: Bakeries of the Luxury Hotels

If you stay at a luxury hotel in Tokyo, it is likely that your hotel will have a bakeshop creating amazing desserts that can compete with the beautiful ones presented in the department stores’ food halls. It is always worth a peek, and often, a purchase.

Apple tarte tatin at The Peninsula Tokyo. The Peninsula Tokyo features seasonal desserts according to the fruits of the month, in this case, apples were in season for the kitchen to make this gorgeous apple tarte tatin

Strawberry shortcake at The Palace Hotel Tokyo. The basement floor of the Palace Hotel has several shops, including Sweets and Deli featuring take-away lunches, bread, and desserts. Standouts include this strawberry shortcake and Marjolaine cake when they are in season

German apple pancake at The Capitol Hotel Tokyu. While not in the hotel’s bakeshop, this dessert can be found in their all-day cafe. It is the perfect light ending to a meal at any time of the day
