Ranking the Best Crab Dishes.
Crab season depends on where you are in the world. For instance, Dungeness crabs are from November to June, Hokkaido crabs are from January to May, and Maryland blue crabs are from April to November. So you can actually have crabs all-year-round! Here are 7 of the best crab dishes from all over the world:
1. Steamed Crab
The most classic preparation for fresh crabs. Steamed crab is amazing hot or chilled. Most western cultures dunk the meat in melted butter. Try also a mignonette sauce because the natural sweetness of the crab further enhances from the tartness of the vinegar.
2. Crab Cakes
An old classic and still beloved appetizer. The key is in the generosity of actual crab in the crab cake. They are best eaten on its own, as a sandwich, or even as this Sausalito version of a crab cake eggs benedict.
3. Crab Sandwich
One of the best lunch sandwiches on a hot summer’s day. The best crab sandwich is arguably at the home of the San Francisco Giants with this Crazy Crab Sandwich because of the butter sourdough garlic bread sandwiching a generously meaty crab filling.
4. Stuffed Crab
Stuffed crabs that are shallow-fried and eaten with a sweet chilli sauce are always a memorable treat. This preparation takes a lot of effort if you try to make it at home, so when Poo Jaa is available on a Thai menu, it’s a must-order.
5. Chilli Crab
Singapore’s famous chilli crabs! Meaty, large crabs swimming in a delicious sweet, savory, spicy tomato sauce. This is a must-have when traveling to Singapore or from any reputable Singaporean restaurant.
6. Crab Curry
In line with the Singaporean chilli crab, Indian crab curry is also a most enjoyable crab dish because of the complex flavors and spicy heat from the sauce which directly contrasts against the natural sweetness of the crab.
7. Soft Shell Crab
With the novelty of being able to eat the whole crab including the shell and all the insides and plus the fact that it’s a fried dish, soft shell crab dishes are always a win.
