The Joys & Luxury of Afternoon Tea at The Peninsula Tokyo

A highlight of the finest luxury hotels around the world is the gorgeous tiers of afternoon tea sets. If you have a sweet tooth, afternoon tea at The Peninsula Tokyo is a must. You can enjoy a most beautiful presentation of sweet and savory bites to not just in the afternoon, but also through the evening every day of the week from 2:30pm to 10pm.

During weekend afternoons, The Peninsula Tokyo showcases local Japanese musicians and music in front of their signature lobby display. After their afternoon performance, the music transitions to the balcony above

Tea & Scones

When you settle into your table for Afternoon Tea, you will be given a menu of tea selections. You can select from Peninsula Tea blends, classic teas, herbal teas, and even coffees. At The Peninsula Tokyo, you do not have to stick to your first choice. You can move on to another tea or even a cup of coffee for your second and third (or more) cups.

1866 Limited Edition Peninsula Blend, combining 2016 Summer Darjeeling and Malty Assam. All the details of a first-class high tea setting are delivered as the tea is served in a silver pot, along with a tea strainer and teapot drip catcher
Homemade scones with freshly made clotted cream and strawberry jam. The scones come out in its own silver basket and beautifully hot from the oven. Each guest has two scones, one plain and one with currents

Sweet & Savory Bites

Aside from the fresh-from-the-oven scones, the Blooming Afternoon Tea set comes with 10 sweet and savory bites. With tea, the set is 5,000 yen (~$45 USD); and with a glass of Champagne, the set is 7,000 yen (~$65 USD). Afternoon tea at The Peninsula Tokyo seasonally changes its menu and presentation encouraging locals and visitors to frequently come back for more.

The Blooming Afternoon Tea set comes with 4 savory bites, including caprese, crab and egg roll sandwich, ham and cheese croissant sandwich, and Ashitaba mini buns and salmon tartar sandwich
Out of the 10 pieces on your tiered afternoon tea set, 6 are sweet, including edible flower eclair, lemon tarte, raspberry remington, cherry macaron, raisin cookie, and rhubarb tarte. The sweet bites feature the best of their afternoon tea and highlights of the country’s seasonal fruits
Gorgeous and impressive presentation of every single piece. For example, the cherry macaron is not just a cherry macaron. The inside is filled with lemon curd, and the top is topped with a fresh cherry
Saving the best for last. My favorite of all the bites was this lemon tarte which was a perfect amount of sweet with the extra tartness from the lemon. Then, along with the taste, the texture of the crust is beautifully crispy and crumbly
