Traditions & Festivities

After reading about the 30-minute fireworks spectacular in Hong Kong for Chinese New Year, flights were booked and reservations were made at my favorite hotel. While I may not be Chinese, I have a fond appreciation for all the festivities, the culture, and, of course, the food!

Celebrations in Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong

Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong celebrates Chinese New Year with lively spirits, sophistication, and class. From Lion Dances in the lobby to the detailed gifts for hotel guests. The hotel knows how to offer the finest quality experience.

Celebrating the Year of the Rooster. The lobby display of the rooster made of ribbons. Pure class and sophistication. The hotel also hires the most qualified performers to celebrate every holiday, including this team of lion dancers and musicians to perform the classic Lion Dance in the hotel lobby to ring in the first day of Chinese New Year
The lion did not just dance on the floor, it also impressed the audience with its acrobatic talents. The traditions, music, skill, and festive presentation made this one of the more impressive lion dance presentations
Guests staying at the hotel are treated to special occasion gifts, such as this box of chocolates with coins, a rooster, and even the chocolate platform. Such skill, artistry, and generosity!
The Mandarin Cake Shop offers specialty treats to take home or gift as beautiful gifts, including traditional Chinese New Year sweet and savory cakes such as the sweet glutinous nian gao (known in the Philippines as tikoy), and the savory turnip and taro cakes

Fireworks “Spectacular”

The highlight of the weekend was supposed to be this fireworks show. We even booked a room with a Harbour view (the Harbour View Suite) to ensure the best position for the fireworks. Unfortunately, the low-lying clouds had other plans for the evening. Thank goodness for the hotel who provided us a memorable stay, superior service, and consistently excellent dining experiences
